Each patient undergoes a complete health assessment, including a physical and a lab profile, and receives around the clock monitoring throughout the withdrawal period. When necessary, medications help further reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms. When detox is complete, you’ll discuss the next steps of recovery and transition goals for a residential, intensive outpatient, or outpatient treatment program.

Topeka ER & Hospital accepts most commercial insurances. Our Medical Records Specialist will obtain insurance authorization prior to inpatient admission. You may be able to use your employer’s Employee Assistance Program benefit.

We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid Insurance. Topeka ER & Hospital also accepts self-payment to fund treatment.

If you are having a medical emergency, same-day admittance is necessary. Topeka ER & Hospital provides 24/7 emergency admissions. Come to the emergency room if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Expand How Long Does Detox Take?

The duration of medical detoxification varies from person to person. Factors like co-occurring disorders, severity of withdrawal symptoms, length of your addiction, recency of drug use, and substance(s) you were using can all impact the duration of detox. Average length of stay is 2-3 days.

Expand Does Detox Treat Addiction?

Medical detox helps in the sense that your body is cleansed of addictive substances in the short term, and it can relieve acute symptoms associated with withdrawal.

Importantly, it does not address the root cause(s) of addiction, nor what you’ll have to do to maintain sobriety. It sets the stage so that you can receive the therapeutic measures to help you achieve your long-term goals, but detox alone does little to change addictive behaviors. Your treatment team will discuss transition goals with you for a residential, intensive outpatient, or outpatient treatment program in the next step of your recovery.

No. The care you receive in detox is 24-hours a day and administered by qualified medical professionals in an inpatient setting. Medical Detox is voluntary. Inpatients are not allowed to leave the premises.
